Radiological Removal Action, Radiological Protection Support Services, McClellan Air Force Base, Confirmed Site 10 , McClellan, CA

NWT was selected as subcontractor to a prime contract under which URS Group, Inc., (URS) performed excavation work for the McClellan AFB Environmental Technology Remediation Implementation Contract (METRIC) Program. NWT provided license oversight and Health Physics support (Radiation Protection) for a large construction crew during the excavation and removal action of an onsite disposal area containing radioactive materials.

The total volume of soil and debris removed during the remediation activities is estimated at 29,000 cubic yards. As part of the contract, NWT provided an onsite radio-analytical laboratory capable of performing gamma-photon and limited alpha spectroscopy, gas proportional counting for gross alpha/beta and liquid scintillation beta counting. Laboratory operations and license oversight remains ongoing.
