Projects :: Radioanalytical Laboratory
Radioanalytical Laboratory Services, Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, San Francisco CA

NWT currently has 3 fully equipped laboratories on-site at Hunters Point
- The labs are staffed with the necessary technical personnel to analyze soils and other media samples for radionuclide content and concentrations.
- Specific services provided include:
- Gamma spectral analyses using a 20% Beryllium (Be) HpGe detector and a 40% HpGe scintillation detector
- Gross alpha/ beta analysis using a low background gas flow proportional counter with auto-sample changer
- Analysis of low energy (primarily tritium) beta emitting nuclides using a Beckman scintillation counter
Radioanalytical Laboratory Services, McClellan AFB, McClellan, CA
- NWT was tasked with setting up protocols and an onsite radio-analytical laboratory that could accurately assess soil radioactivity levels within a 72-hour window.
- Analysis was conducted to allow a preliminary segregation for final disposition of debris and soil as it was excavated. (Bins were loaded with “like” materials—radioactivity levels requiring the same final disposition.)
- The laboratory includes gamma-photon and alpha spectroscopy systems, liquid scintillation counter, gas proportional alpha/beta counters, sample receipt preparation area, fume hood with H.E.P.A. ventilation, counting room with shielded sample chambers, administrative offices, and associated laboratory storage and support equipment (i.e., weight scales, RAM safe, computers, vials, beakers, sample containers, etc.)
